Laboratory Services Technician

The minimal skills required for this position include sample collection (venipuncture, urine collection, fecal collection, etc.), setting up and reading fecals (float/direct/smear), setting up and reading skin scrapings, generating smears and cytology’s as needed, reading manual platelet counts and differentials, performing urinalysis and sediment readings. Other duties include: COMMUNICATIONS - Maintain open and respectful lines of communication with all TGCVS staff, meet monthly with DPC to insure goals are being met, inform all TGCVS of laboratory updates as needed, develop and maintain open and respectful lines of communication with all laboratory vendors. JANITORIAL - Clean all laboratory areas daily, stock all laboratory areas daily, ensure all laboratory reference materials and supplies are easy to locate and access by all TGCVS staff. INVENTORY - Maintain all laboratory in-house tests, maintain all laboratory supplies, maintain all necessary forms for outside laboratories, maintain storage areas of all ‘hold’ samples. EQUIPMENT - Perform all daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance, recalibrate equipment as needed, troubleshoot and perform repairs when having equipment malfunctions. LABORATORY SERVICES - Perform all TGCVS in-house laboratory work submitted during the LST designated shift, assist in the proper handling, packaging, and shipping of all ‘send out’ lab tests, act as a reference to all TGCVS staff in regards to laboratory service questions, maintain a reference list of all laboratory tests either sent out or performed in-house, with specimen requirements and laboratory test is performed at. INVOICING - Check all outside laboratory invoices and submit to the finance department, report all employee pet lab work sent to outside laboratories to CST for billing. REPORTS - Create monthly reports of all laboratory tests performed, create annual reports of all laboratory test performed and the pricing, create reports as requested for price analysis. PRICING - Update all laboratory service prices yearly as approved by the DPC, create pricing for all new laboratory tests based on pricing scale. RESEARCH - Investigate new laboratory equipment as requested, investigate new laboratory tests as requested, investigate pricing and different outside lab sites as requested, assist in the management of TGCVS research projects requiring laboratory services. SAMPLE COLLECTION - Assist in the collection of specimen samples as needed, insure proper modalities are used for samples collected.
